Under EPA notices, Brimbank City Council must do ongoing testing for landfill gases and vapours. An independent environmental auditor must also do an annual audit. The audit is due by the end of March 2020.
Brimbank City Council consultants have tested at the site for landfill gas and vapours. Results of testing show that there is no immediate risk to nearby residents. Existing properties near the site don't need additional safety measures. The council will be doing further testing and assessment of the risks. This is part of their ongoing management.
It is important to manage former landfills properly to make sure that landfill gas and vapour does not affect nearby residents.
