Environmental auditors are independent and do not work for EPA. They are engaged by business, industry and government to carry out statutory duties under the Environment Protection Act 2017. 

The role of industrial facilities environmental auditors is: 

  • conducting environmental audits  
  • preparing environmental audit statements and reports 
  • performing any function consulted on by an environmental auditor under relevant legislation.

An industrial facilities environmental auditor has a unique role in Victoria. They are appointed to work in subcategories based on their demonstrated expertise. These areas are:

  • activities related to industrial facilities (design, construction, commissioning, operation and decommissioning)
  • wind energy facilities
  • activities relating to landfills (design, construction, operation, closure and aftercare).

Application requirements and process 

We are looking for people who have: 

  • relevant skills, expertise and qualifications 
  • experience in assessment of activities related to industrial facilities, landfills and/or wind energy facilities
  • a sound knowledge of the Victorian legislative framework and auditing practices
  • through understanding of the EP Act 2017, associated statutory policies, regulations and guidelines.

 
Applicants must address the requirements set out in Environmental auditor guidelines for appointment and conduct (publication 865).  

The application process has 3 stages:  

  1. written application
  2. exam
  3. interview.

Applicants will need to be successful at each stage of the application process to be recommended for appointment.  

Application fees 

There is an application fee of $2,313.79. The fee is due when submitting the application. 

You will have the option to:

  • pay immediately when submitting your application through the EPA portal 
  • receive a tax invoice and pay later.

EPA will not review any applications until the fee is paid.

Applicants who proceed through the 3 stages will incur an additional fee of $8,377.13 before the appointment is made.  

Appointments are for 3 years. 

Unsuccessful applicants will not be entitled to a refund.
