- Background of offence
- An EPA investigation revealed that Vic Wide Bin Hire and Demolitions Pty Ltd dumped a truck load of industrial demolition waste on privately owned land in June 2010. EPA obtained evidence that a truck owned by the company, and driven by its employee, was witnessed illegally dumping at a vacant property in the northern Melbourne suburb of Preston by employees of the property’s owners, who contacted the police. The witnesses also photographed the vehicle as it dumped waste consisting of cement sheeting, bricks and wood as well as other construction and demolition waste.

- In accordance with the Compliance and Enforcement Policy, dumping of industrial waste is priority area of enforcement. This prosecution was also aligned to the Illegal Dumping Strike Force Program.
