A burn off of industrial waste has proven costly for a man who failed to follow the regulations regarding disposal of waste materials and is now $1,923 poorer.
EPA Victoria officers visited a work site at Kerrs Lane, Narre Warren East on 9 August following reports of noxious smoke coming from the premises.
They found evidence of burnt industrial waste which should have been taken for disposal at an appropriately licensed facility.
“Everyone has a legal duty to act to protect the environment. Industrial waste cannot be burnt in backyard bonfires,” said EPA North Metropolitan Melbourne Regional Manager Jeremy Settle.
“The resulting smoke is potentially harmful and for that reason, a fine is appropriate.”
