Meatworks Australia Pty Ltd (Meatworks) has proposed construction of an abattoir and meat processing facility at Gillieston in northern Victoria. The facility will have a processing rate of 3000 head of sheep per day, onsite sewage and wastewater treatment plants, and recycled water irrigation. The proposed facility requires works approval from Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) under the Environment Protection Act 1970. On 24 April 2019, EPA received an application for works approval from Meatworks. On 18 October 2019, EPA approved the works approval application, subject to conditions.
