- Background of offence
In August and September 2010, EPA received a number of reports from neighbouring businesses and residents concerned about the odours coming from the site. The odour was described in a manner consistent with meat rendering. An inspection both onsite and in the residential area, by EPA officers confirmed the source of the odour was from the premises of Australian Tallow Producers Pty. Ltd. EPA issued a Pollution Abatement Notice which required substantial modification to the plant and processes at the premises. Earlier in 2010, EPA also received a number of odour reports in February 2010, and those odour reports were also traced to the premises of Australian Tallow Producers Pty Ltd.
